Exercise of the Week: Jump Rope

Jump roping may sound easy, but it’s a great workout (and the exercises in the above video require some serious coordination, timing, and general body awareness). Be warned, though, if you don’t use proper technique it can be rough on your knees and ankles. Be sure to stay on your toes, jump no more than an inch of the ground, and land as softly as possible. Also, wear sneakers and jump on a wood floor if possible. Don’t be frustrated if you tire easily at first or quickly work up a sweat; jumping rope for 10-15 minutes burns as many calories as running an 8-minute mile!

Who knows, maybe one day you’ll even be as good as this guy!
