Opening Day Monday Motivation

HAPPY OPENING DAY! Today’s the day millions of boys watch their idols play and dream of making their favorite team’s Opening Day roster. Today’s also the day when a handful of professional baseball players–both rookies and guys who’ve been around for a while–will experience their first MLB Opening Day. It’s one of the most exciting times in baseball. Today every team in MLB (except the Astros and Rangers who played last night) has an even 0-0 record, a clean slate if you will. Anything can happen; the possibilities are endless.

Most of the time we try to emphasize the realities of being a professional athlete. [For example, for all the millions of boys dreaming of one day making an Opening Day roster, they should realize there are only 30 MLB teams with 25 guys on their active roster. That’s 750 spots.] But, it’s also important to remember why you play. Hopefully it’s for love of the game. If so, you’re in a good position. Sometimes, especially when you’re just starting out, it’s easy to get discouraged. But hopefully today’s Monday Motivation will inspire you to keep you head up and keep working hard! Every single one of the guys playing Major League Baseball right now was once in your shoes. Remember: “The expert in anything was once a beginner.”
